Just a GREAT day!

Trying to keep this short is difficult because I want Caitlin to feel your cheers with each thing she accomplishes. Today Michael was taking pictures with Caitlin on his phone and lo and behold he was able to post Caitlin's photo from today on this blog. I have no idea how he did this but isn't it wonderful to see Caitlin's smile!
Caitlin has to be turned in bed every two hours and really doesn't much care for it. I was helping to do this and she was moaning and groaning. I decided to moan in unison with her and she just burst out laughing! Then as she was moaning again I told her to tell the nurses, "I don't like it!". She mumbled it and the nurses both jumped for joy and as they heard her. They are the witnesses and swear to it!
The communication therapist had a student intern with her today. Caitlin gets overwhelmed with too many strangers entering her room and she was upset. I told Caitlin that Elise, the intern, was going to be her student today. At the end of the therapy session I asked Elise what she learned from Caitlin, the master teacher. Caitlin just burst out laughing and had the biggest smile on her face.
With PT Caitlin sat in a chair which is somewhat of a recliner. She was surrounded by her dad, sisters, step mom, and me. We looked like the queen with her court hovering around. Two different doctors walked in within five minutes of each other. We won't say which doctor got the big smile from Caitlin but we sure did joke about it afterwards!
Hopefully Caitlin will sleep peacefully tonight. It is difficult for her to fall asleep. Her dad and Aunt Christine stay late into the night to keep Caitlin calm and wait until she finally crashes around 1:00 in the morning. The early morning shift is mine. Today when I got to the hospital, Caitlin cried a bit, gave me a good look, and then crashed for a few hours. Monday, the 24th, will make it a month that Caitlin has been in the hospital. So much has happened and so much more needs to occur! Patience is truly the greatest virtue in our lives right now!

A mighty wind blew night and day.
It stole the oak tree’s leaves away
Then snapped its boughs
And pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark.
But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees
Fell all around.

The weary wind gave up and spoke,
“How can you still be standing, Oak?”
The oak tree said,
“I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two,
Carry every leaf away,
Shake my limbs, and make me sway.
But I have roots
Stretched in the earth,
Growing stronger since my birth.
You’ll never touch them, for you see,
They are the deepest part of me.
Until today, I wasn’t sure
Of just how much I could endure.
But now I’ve found,
With thanks to you,
I’M STRONGER THAN I EVER KNEW!”

Dear Caitlin:
We know you can do this!
You have deep roots of faith and are a strong
OAK, surrounded by many people who care….
Even far away like US!
With Lots of LOVE and prayers
for healing & strength to you and to Kathy
And your beautiful family XOXOXO,
Mike & Monica

Dear Caitlin,
I am so happy to hear you were moved out of ICU. I know it is bitter sweet because you received the most wonderful care while you were in their, but the move means you are getting better with each passing day, which make us all so very very happy. I have tried to write to you a few times but somehow my thoughts and prayers would not send, so with the help of my wonderful daughter Mal, who I might add has more patience for her mom than anyone I have ever met when it comes to computer lesson 101, I am able to send this letter to you. Caitlin you have no idea how many hearts you have affected, it seems everywhere I turn someone mentions you name and your courage. Hannah is coming home Monday for a week, one of the first things she asked was would she be able to visit you  . Dear Caitlin please knows you are in my thoughts everyday. I miss you and cherish the time I get to spend with you, HUGS and KISSES sent your way love Deb
